Location:
Full-time, long-term remote and hybrid positions located in Washington, DC


Responsibilities:

  • Innovate & Integrate: Design, develop, and integrate advanced technologies for network control in cloud and specialized environments.
  • Full Lifecycle Development: Contribute from requirements gathering to deployment, ensuring high-quality, reliable software.
  • Network Protocols & Management: Develop and maintain data network protocols, drivers, and management software using industry best practices.
  • Network Configuration & Troubleshooting: Optimize performance and reliability by configuring and troubleshooting routers, switches, VLANs, and related components.
  • Linux Systems Administration: Manage Linux-based systems, firewall configurations, and network security.
  • Open-Source Tools & Testing: Leverage open-source networking tools and simulation software for development and validation.
  • Efficient Coding: Write clean, maintainable code in C, C++, Python, or similar languages within a Linux environment.
  • Team Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams using tools like Confluence, Jira, and Git to ensure seamless project execution.
  • Effective Communication: Clearly convey ideas and progress to team members, stakeholders, and clients.
  • Continuous Learning: Stay ahead of emerging trends and best practices in network control and technology.


Qualifications:
We're seeking candidates with a diverse range of qualifications, experiences, and skills. While we expect candidates to have some of these skills, having proficiency in all of them is not mandatory.


Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum requirement of a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience in data network development and/or testing
  • Data network protocol, driver, or data network management software development experience.
  • Solid foundation in industry/standard network technologies, routers, switches, spanning tree routing protocols (e.g., OSPF, IS-IS, BGP, PIM) and YANG
  • Good verbal and written communications skills
  • U.S. citizenship required


Experience with the following technologies:

  • Routers/Ethernet/VLAN configuration and related network development and/or debugging.
  • Linux system or networking administration (e.g, firewall configuration)
  • Open-source networking related software (e.g., FRRouting, libyang)
  • NFV in VMs and/or container configuration and operation
  • Network Simulation, such as CORE and/or EMANE
  • Proficiency with C, C++, python and/or other scripting languages in a Linux environment
  • Project collaboration experience such as Confluence, Jira, and/or git
  • Experience with automating tasks with shell scripts (e.g., Python, shell, ansible, Jenkins)

INTERNSHIPS

2025 Computer Science Summer Internships

Program Overview

 LabN’s paid summer internship program offers undergraduate and graduate students in computer science and engineering a unique opportunity to work on the forefront of network control innovation. As an intern, you’ll collaborate with industry-recognized experts, tackling real-world R&D projects that shape the future of cloud and specialized operating environments. You’ll gain hands-on experience, expand your technical skills, and contribute meaningfully to our mission-driven team.


Program Dates & Location

  • Duration: 10–12 weeks
  • Start: Flexible, from mid-May through early June
  • Location: Hybrid (on-site in Washington, DC, with remote flexibility)


Technical Focus Areas

  • Cloud-native network control architectures
  • Linux-based network administration & scripting (C/C++/Python/Rust)
  • Software-defined networking in specialized operating environments
  • Cross-functional collaboration using modern development practices


Eligibility Citeria

 We seek passionate, driven students who are eager to learn and contribute: 

  • U.S. Citizenship Required
  • Active Secret Clearance Preferred (or willingness to undergo clearance process)
  • Minimum of sophomore standing in Computer Science or Engineering by internship start
  • Preferred coursework or knowledge in:
    » Computer Networks
    » Computer Systems Architecture
    » Operating Systems
    » Software Engineering
  • Experience with: C, C++, Python, Rust, and/or other scripting languages in a Linux environment
  • Linux system or networking administration skills
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Self-starters who thrive in collaborative research environments


Intern Experience & Impact

  • Immediate responsibility: Work on deliverables from Day 1, including software prototypes, technical analyses, and design documents
  • Capstone presentation: Present your findings to senior engineers at the conclusion of your internship
  • Professional development: Participate in code reviews, design sprints, and architecture discussions
  • Portfolio building: Complete unclassified project work you can showcase to future employers
  • Mentorship: Receive guidance and feedback from experienced project leads and industry experts
  • Career support: Benefit from resume reviews and career coaching as part of your internship experience
