Job Summary:
LabN Consulting, LLC is currently hiring experienced engineers and developers who are eager to delve into cutting-edge technologies for network control in cloud and specialized operating environments. We are looking for candidates with a spectrum of skills relative to the posted positions. Positions range from software development to system integration and system testing. These positions involve working as part of a team with both developers and vendors.
Location: Full-time, long-term remote and hybrid positions available. Flexible work locations offered, with some roles based in Washington DC.
Responsibilities:
As a valued member of our team, you will be entrusted with the following responsibilities:
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including developers and vendors to design, develop, integrate, and test new technologies for network control in cloud and specialized operating environments.
- Contribute to all phases of the software development lifecycle, from requirements gathering to deployment, ensuring high-quality deliverables.
- Develop and maintain data network protocols, drivers, and management software, adhering to industry standards and best practices.
- Configure and troubleshoot routers, switches, VLANs, and related network components to optimize performance and reliability.
- Administer Linux systems and networks, managing firewall configurations and system security.
- Utilize open-source networking software and simulation tools for network development, testing, and validation.
- Write efficient, clean, and maintainable code in languages such as C, C++, Python, etc., within a Linux environment.
- Foster a collaborative and productive work environment by actively participating in project collaboration using tools like Confluence, Jira, git, etc.
- Communicate effectively with team members, stakeholders, and clients through verbal and written channels.
- Stay updated on industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in network control and technology.
Qualifications:
We're seeking candidates with a diverse range of qualifications, experiences, and skills. While we expect candidates to have some of these skills, having proficiency in all of them is not mandatory.
Required Qualifications:
- Minimum requirement of a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field
- Minimum of 3 years' experience in data network development and/or testing
- Data network protocol, driver, or data network management software development experience.
- Solid foundation in industry/standard network technologies, routers, switches, spanning tree routing protocols (e.g., OSPF, IS-IS, BGP, PIM) and YANG
- Good verbal and written communications skills
- U.S. citizenship required.
Experience with the following technologies:
- Routers/Ethernet/VLAN configuration and related network development and/or debugging.
- Linux system or networking administration (e.g, firewall configuration)
- Open-source networking related software (e.g., FRRouting, libyang)
- NFV in VMs and/or container configuration and operation
- Network Simulation, such as CORE and/or EMANE
- Proficiency with C, C++, python and/or other scripting languages in a Linux environment
- Project collaboration experience such as Confluence, Jira, and/or git
- Experience with automating tasks with shell scripts (e.g., Python, shell, ansible, Jenkins)

INTERNSHIPS
2025 Summer Internships for Undergraduates and Graduates (Applications will open in January)
Program Overview
LabN offers paid summer internships for undergraduate and graduate computer science and engineering students. Interns will explore the latest innovations in network control within cloud and specialized operating environments. We offer an opportunity to learn and work on real projects with our team of leading industry experts.
Program Dates
Internship Program is 10-12 weeks with a flexible start date mid-May through early-June.
Eligibility Criteria
- Minimum of sophomore standing in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- Preferred courses or knowledge of:
- Computer Networks
- Computer Systems Architecture
- Operating Systems
- Software Engineering
- C, C++, python and/or other scripting languages in a Linux environment
- Linux system or networking administration
- Good verbal and written communications skills
- U.S. citizenship required.
Responsibilities and Expectations
- Interns are expected to contribute in a meaningful way to active research and development projects.
- Intern contributions may take the form of written analysis, designs, software plans, or software development.
- Interns will be assigned a project lead to provide direction throughout the internship.
- Interns will be expected to provide weekly written status and to participate in status and design meetings on a regular basis.
- At the end of the internship, interns will provide a written description of their accomplishments and prepare and deliver a presentation on a related topic.
- Interns will also be provided with review and feedback about their resumes and career goals.
